1420年、日本では室町時代の中期にあたるこの年、ヨーロッパではフランス王国が国家存亡の危機に直面していた。

百年戦争において劣勢に立たされたフランスは、イングランドとの戦争に事実上敗れ、トロワ条約を受け入れることになる。

トロワ条約とは何だったのか

トロワ条約の内容は、極めて屈辱的なものだった。
イングランド王ヘンリー5世が、フランス王シャルル6世の娘と結婚し、その間に生まれた子がフランス王位を継承するという条項である。

これはつまり、
フランスがイングランドに併合される未来を公式に認めたに等しい内容だった。

ヘンリー5世の急死がもたらした「空白」

しかし、この歴史はわずか2年後に大きく揺らぐ。

1422年、イングランド王ヘンリー5世は、35歳の若さで急死する。
この突然の死によって、トロワ条約は事実上棚上げとなり、フランス併合の流れはいったん止まった。

この時、ひとりの少女がフランスに生きていた。
後に歴史を変える存在となるジャンヌ・ダルクである。

彼女は、まだ10歳だった。

ジャンヌ・ダルクと「天の声」

数年後、ジャンヌ・ダルクは天使の声を聞き始めたと語るようになる。
この一連の歴史の流れを振り返ると、私はそこに偶然以上のものを感じずにはいられない。

まるで、歴史の大きな分岐点において、
**何らかの「天界の介入」**が働いたかのように見えるのだ。

イングランドとフランスは「合併してはならなかった」

私の想像では、それは大天使長ミカエルのもとで、
イングランドの守護天使とフランスの守護天使が語り合い、
両国の合併を阻止するという目的を共有した結果だったのではないか。

イングランドとフランスは、
歴史的にも精神的にも、決して一つになってはならない関係だったのだろう。

それは、両国のためだけではない。
世界の将来の均衡のためでもあった——
そう考えると、この時代の出来事は、単なる歴史的偶然とは思えなくなってくる。

歴史とは、時に人知を超えた力によって、
進むべき方向へと修正されるものなのかもしれない。

The Treaty of Troyes and a Turning Point in European History

In 1420, while Japan was in the middle of the Muromachi period, France faced one of the gravest crises in its history.
Amid the ongoing Hundred Years’ War, defeat at the hands of England appeared increasingly inevitable.

That year, France accepted the Treaty of Troyes, a decision that would have reshaped Europe entirely.

What Was the Treaty of Troyes?

The Treaty of Troyes was deeply humiliating for France.
Under its terms, King Henry V of England married the daughter of the French king, Charles VI.
Any child born from this union was to inherit the French crown.

In effect, the treaty acknowledged a future in which France would be absorbed into an English-led kingdom.
French sovereignty, at least on paper, was already lost.

The Sudden Death of Henry V

Yet history took an unexpected turn.

In 1422, just two years after the treaty was signed, King Henry V died suddenly at the age of thirty-five.
With his death, the implementation of the Treaty of Troyes stalled, and the momentum toward full annexation came to a halt.

At that moment, a young girl was living quietly in France.
Her name was Joan of Arc.

She was only ten years old.

Joan of Arc and the “Voices from Heaven”

A few years later, Joan would claim that she began hearing voices—what she believed to be messages from angels.
When one looks at the sequence of events surrounding France’s survival, it is difficult not to sense more than mere coincidence.

It is as if, at a decisive crossroads in history,
some form of intervention beyond human calculation altered the course of events.

Why England and France Never Became One

One possible interpretation is symbolic rather than literal.
Under the authority of the Archangel Michael—a figure revered in both traditions—
the destinies of England and France diverged.

Perhaps these two nations were never meant to merge into a single power.
Not only for their own sake, but for the balance of Europe—and the wider world.

From this perspective, the rise of Joan of Arc appears not merely as a historical accident,
but as a corrective force within history itself.

History, at times, seems to adjust its course
when human ambition moves too far in one direction.
